The Independent Philanthropy Association of South Africa (IPASA) is proud to unveil its fifth edition of the Annual Review of South African Philanthropy. 

In the Annual Review, IPASA showcases prominent philanthropic organisations and their efforts towards addressing the pressing challenges facing the country. This year's focus is on how collaboration, leadership and sustainable innovation can address the key challenges we face as a country while unpacking the progress made and the work that still needs to be done.

The context for the 2023 review highlights the crucial role of philanthropy in driving positive change in the face of ongoing challenges such as unemployment, inequality, and the climate crisis. Mvoyo Tom, Chairperson of the DG Murray Trust and a contributor to the review, eloquently expresses the transformational role philanthropy can play, stating, "We must exhibit boldness and a willingness to embrace risks in order to effect the radical changes that South Africa urgently requires."

With contributions from some of South Africa's most prominent philanthropic organisations, the 2023 Annual Review highlights the crucial role of philanthropy in driving positive change in the face of ongoing challenges such as unemployment, inequality, and the climate crisis.

“In this edition, we embark on a comprehensive exploration of how strategic collaboration, inspired leadership, and sustainable innovation come together as catalysts for addressing the critical challenges we face as a country,” stated Louise Driver, Executive Director of IPASA. “At IPASA, we believe that committed and knowledgeable funders can make a meaningful impact and drive systemic change.”

Since 2019, IPASA has published five annual editions of the Review, which is made available to all stakeholder groups in philanthropy locally and globally.
