Kronendal Music Academy: Social Worker / School Counsellor

Hout Bay, Western Cape

Kronendal MAKronendal Music Academy provides music education and psycho-social support to impoverished youth in the Hout Bay community. We are accepting applications from registered counsellors and social workers. This position fulfils social work services to the pupils and their families, interacts on a daily basis with the pupils in an administrative role, and assists key staff members with matters pertaining to pupil management. The perfect candidate will thrive in a caring and fun environment where their creativity and communication skills are at the fore.

Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide social work services through the promotion of problem solving in human relationships to enhance social well-being
  • Conducting home visits and organising family interventions
  • Maintaining relationships with pupils, teachers and parents
  • Providing individual and/or group therapy, giving feedback and recording data
  • Contributing to professional development workshops with teachers
  • Managing and coordinating data for M&E reporting, including in-house pupil wellbeing assessments, music therapy reports and school results
  • Keep up to date with new developments in the social work and social welfare fields

General admin assistance to the staff as pertains to the children’s activities at KMA will include, but is not limited to:

  • Data capturing
  • Communications
  • Pupil activity development and coordination
  • Posting on social media sites
  • Pupil Mentor group management

Competencies Knowledge of the following:

  • Relevant legislation, policies and prescripts (norms and standards)
  • Supervision framework for Social Workers
  • Knowledge and understanding of human behaviour and social systems as well as skills to intervene at the points where people interact with their environments in order to promote social well-being
  • Knowledge in Social Work theory and creative approaches for interventions
  • Information and Knowledge Management
  • Protocol and professional ethics
  • Developing and empowering others
  • Report writing skills and Self-Management skills
  • Understanding and ability to provide social work services for people who are vulnerable, at risk and unable to protect themselves


  • Tertiary qualification and registered with the SACSSP as a Social Worker, or registered with HPCSA as a Registered counsellor
  • Experience in counselling children and sound ethical principles of practice
  • Excellent relationship with children and a natural ability to have fun and be creativ
  • Outstanding administrative skills with proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Fluency in isiXhosa and preferably Afrikaans
  • Natural ability to build strategic relationships and interact with individuals of different backgrounds
  • Passion for teamwork and community-based interventions
  • Represent the values and ethos of the organization

The starting date for this position is as soon as possible and would require a probationary period. Salary is market related.
