Job Description

The purpose of this job is to ensure a contribution towards the therapeutic development programme, contributing to the holistic functioning of persons with an Intellectual Disability at Alta Du Toit Centre. The role is responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of diverse activity/wellness/skills development programmes. Clinical assessments and treatments for residents and day workers. You may work with patients with a range of conditions, including intellectual impairment, neurological conditions, ASD and many more.


Roles and Responsibilities

  • KPA’s (Key Performance Areas) OF THE JOB
  • To implement the strategic objectives of Alta du Toit skills development programme.
  • Conducting regular holistic assessments and  treatments of the clients at Alta du Toit, including but not limited to developing stimulation programmes, assess and report on residents’ functional abilities and therapy needs, develop individual goals and therapy plans.
  1. Provide support with room modifications (complex and simple), equipment prescription (including mobility aids, positioning supports, bathroom aids and seating) and assistive technology (including self-care, low tech and learning aids).
  2. Working with the other programme staff to ensure that the training opportunities offered through group therapy, recreational and work activities are used optimally towards developing clients to their full potential.
  3. Supervision of Occupational Therapy students.
  4. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team consisting of Social Workers, Nurses, Psychologists etc.
  5. To be an effective leader, change agent and advocate for persons with a disability.
  6. Attend formal and informal opportunities for networking and learning and development.

The successful candidate will be reporting to the Therapy Coordinator.


Qualifications and Requirements

To be considered for this vacancy, the following minimum requirements must be met:

  • Tertiary qualification in Occupational Therapy with proof of professional registration with HPCSA
  • Valid driver’s license
  • A minimum of 2 years experience in implimenting development and skills programmes, as well as therapeutic assessments and treatments
  • Special interest and/or experience in treatment applicable to intellectual disability / psychiatry / mental health
  • Experience in creating and implementing therapy and stimulation programmes
  • Experience in providing training and mentorship to caregivers and colleagues
  • Computer literacy is essential (MS Office)
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
  • A skilled professional, able to work independently and adapt  to change
