SCAT seeks to employ a Programme Coordinator based in their Head office in Cape Town to coordinate and support SCAT’s contribution to a special project, Just Transition through Community-Owned Renewable Energy Hubs (CREH).

The salary offered is market related, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The main responsibilities of the job are to:

• Coordinate and implement SCAT’s contribution to the project (Just Transition through Community-Owned Renewable Energy Hubs (CREH).
• Identify and recommend Community Based Organisations for participation in the project and selection to be a community owned renewable energy hub (CREH).
• Coordinate and facilitate workshops, events and peer learning activities related to the action.
• Provide mentorship and technical support to CREHs to implement their planned activities.
• Oversee CREH reports and compliance.
• Appraise, monitor, track and analyse proposals for grants for community workshops.
• Keep abreast of the trends and developments relating to the strategic project focus area.
• Track policy on climate change, energy justice and Just Energy Transition.
• Develop and present case studies on lessons learnt from the project.

• Related Tertiary qualification in social development, environmental studies and/or energy studies.
• A minimum of five years’ experience in the climate and energy justice sector and a minimum of two years’ experience at the level of Programme Officer or Programme Coordinator with a good understanding of energy justice and climate change.
• A good understanding of gender, and youth as these intersect with energy justice and climate change.
• Information gathering and analytical skills, with the ability to capture vast amounts of information.
• Strong communications skills and ability to listen and notice, using both formal and informal channels.
• Verbal and written communication in English and ideally in one other indigenous language.
• Good interpersonal skills and versatility in social interaction, i.e. the ability to interact at different levels within the scope of work and relations.
• Tolerant of other people’s views, beliefs, and outlook to life and what is happening around them.
• Evidence based leadership skills including the ability to self-manage and take own initiative.
• Evidence based facilitation skills and ability to develop curriculum for workshops.
• Attention to detail and adherence to reporting requirements.
• Ability to work in a team, support colleagues and apply SCAT’s policies, procedures, and values in the carrying out of their day-to-day duties and decision-making processes in the field.
• Ability to identify trends and communicate these with the SCAT programme team and Local Development Agency partners.
• Basic bookkeeping/accounting, e.g. understanding, compilation, and interpretation of financial statements.
• Computer literacy, i.e. Word processing, PowerPoint, and Excel
• Unendorsed Driver’s Licence with driving experience.
